What are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are advanced biocompatible restorations that mimic the look, feel, and function of natural teeth. Implants are essentially artificial tooth roots that, when anchored into the bone, are strong enough to support permanent restorations like crowns, bridges, and dentures.

What are the Benefits of Dental Implants?

1.

Natural Look and Feel

Dental implants look and feel just like your natural teeth, restoring your smile and boosting your self-esteem. As a result, you’ll find yourself smiling more often.

2.

Durability

With proper care, dental implants can last a lifetime, making them a cost-effective solution in the long run. Moreover, they prevent bone loss and maintain your facial structure.

3.

Preservation of Facial Structure

When teeth are missing, the jawbone can deteriorate over time, leading to a sunken facial appearance. Dental implants stimulate natural bone growth, preserving your facial structure and preventing premature aging.

4.

Improved Quality of Life

Imagine never worrying about slipping dentures or food restrictions again. Dental implants allow you to eat, speak, and smile with complete confidence, significantly enhancing your day-to-day comfort and overall well-being.

New teeth supported by dental implants are extremely lifelike in both appearance and function. They allow anyone with missing teeth to act and feel as though they have their natural teeth back.

Why should I see a periodontist for dental implants?

As part of their specialist education, periodontists receive extensive training in all aspects of implant placement. Over time, a periodontist completes many different types of dental implant cases and runs across many kinds of oral health situations. As a result, patients can expect the following:

  • Better aesthetics & function
  • Reduced risk of implant failure & better long-term success rates
  • The ability to provide gum and bone grafting when necessary
  • Competence in treating complex cases
  • Quick and efficient treatment, which equals shorter time in the chair, faster healing time and less discomfort
  • Ongoing maintenance and monitoring for long-term implant health and stability

Our Dental Implant Procedure

Precise Diagnostics and Planning

Dr. Reshad starts with full diagnostics to ensure he has a completely accurate view of the condition of your teeth and jaw. For this he obtains a comprehensive series of photographs and X-rays, which includes intraoral camera pictures of the inside of your mouth.
Using our 3D CT scanner, Dr. Reshad obtains detailed 360-degree images of your entire oral anatomy to determine if you are a candidate for implants and, if you are, to plan the treatment. The doctor uses the 3D data with special implant-planning software to simulate the implant placement in advance of the surgery.

Surgical Guides for Accurate Placement

The data gathered is then used to create a physical surgical guide that indicates the exact location, angle and depth for implant placement. Because of this detailed preliminary planning, the procedure is then smooth, accurate and efficient.

Making Sure You are Comfortable

We take every measure to make your implant treatment as comfortable as possible. Dr. Reshad will thoroughly explain your treatment and answer all your questions so you are informed and feel at ease.
Our injections are always gentle so you feel no pain. We have blankets and pillows for your added comfort in the chair, and if needed for longer procedures or heightened anxiety, we can provide oral or IV sedation.

Comfortable Extractions

If a tooth needs to be extracted before placing the implant, Dr. Reshad uses a special instrument to gently detach the tooth from the ligaments holding it in the socket. He then removes the tooth vertically, which causes little or no damage to the surrounding gum and bone tissue. This means the implant site will take far less preparation, swelling is minimized and healing time is much faster.

Expert Bone Grafting

Where inadequate bone is present to support an implant, Dr. Reshad will graft bone material into the implant site to regenerate the needed bone. He uses the latest procedures and materials for minimally invasive and effective bone regeneration.

Growth Proteins for Faster Healing

When needed, Dr. Reshad will add special growth proteins to the implant site. These proteins speed up healing, increase the level of tissue regeneration, reduce swelling and prevent infection.

Same-Day Temporary Teeth

When your implant is placed in a visible area of your smile, Dr. Reshad will place a temporary restoration tooth to maintain your smile while the implant heals. You also receive a temporary denture after implants are placed for a new implant-supported denture.

Lifelike, Beautiful, New Teeth

Dr. Reshad will attach your high-quality crown, bridge, or denture to your implants. The doctor sees to it that the teeth will be durable, aesthetic and remarkably lifelike.

Your Dental Implant Tooth Replacement Options

Single-Tooth Replacement

Implants to replace individual teeth

Dr. Reshad places a dental implant to act as the root of a replacement tooth. A connecting piece known as an abutment is placed on top of the implant and acts as the attachment point for a dental crown.

Multi-Tooth Implant Bridges

Implant-supported bridges

Where several teeth in a row are missing, Dr. Reshad can place a series of implants to support a dental bridge. Implant-supported bridges have nearly the same biting and chewing power as regular teeth and provide the biting and chewing pressure needed to prevent bone loss under the bridge.

Full Arch All-on-4 Implants

All-on-4 Implants

If you are missing all your teeth or need all your teeth replaced, Dr. Reshad can place four specially designed implants in your dental arch which will support new fixed-in teeth that can only be removed by the dentist.
With the New Teeth in One Day procedure, you can now receive a full arch of replacement teeth in as little as one day!

Implant Supported Dentures (Overdentures)

Implant-supported removable dentures

The most economical way to replace an arch of missing teeth is to use implants to support a new denture that can snap onto the implants but can still be removed by you. Both the implants and the underside of the new denture have attachments that allow the denture to snap onto the implants and hold the denture snugly in place.

Am I A Candidate for Dental Implants?

Because of major advances in technology, most people can now successfully get dental implants. In the past, people with too much bone loss around missing teeth did not have the necessary foundation for the implant to be securely anchored. Dr. Reshad uses advanced bone grafting procedures to replace the lost bone and provide the support for implants to be placed successfully.

People can now receive implants even if they have health conditions that formerly made successful implant placement too risky. This includes such things as diabetes, heart disease and heavy smoking. Dr. Reshad can work directly with your physician if necessary to ensure these factors do not adversely affect success.
